Rotary International (RI) is a global network of over 46,000 local clubs, comprising 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who envision a world where people unite to create lasting change – in themselves, in communities, and across the globe. For more than 110 years, the people of action within Rotary have channeled their passion, energy, and intelligence into sustainable projects that foster a Culture of Peace.
February is recognized by Rotary International as World Understanding Month, commemorating the first meeting held on Feb. 23, 1905. This date is also designated as World Understanding and Peace Day, a time dedicated to peace-building and conflict resolution efforts.
Currently, Rotary estimates that over 70 million individuals are displaced due to conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations, with half of them being children. Rotarians are encouraged to reject the notion of conflict as a way of life. We invite you to plant a Peace Pole as a symbol of commitment to building a Culture of Peace through collaborative efforts in the community.
