We are planting Peace Poles along the Oregon Peace Trail, a modern rendition of a historic event, focused on building a peaceful world through various community peace projects. This 296-mile peace pilgrimage from Portland to Ashland, Oregon, is modeled after the famous Camino de Santiago in Spain, which is walked by 500,000 people each year. Each mile of this epic journey deepens one's experience and practice of peace, aligning with ongoing peace initiatives supported by local Rotary clubs. Those who complete the journey gain an appreciation that Peace on Earth is more than a dream; it’s imminently achievable.
Since the formation of the United Nations, which aimed to ‘Save succeeding generations from the scourge of war,’ there have been over 250 wars. How can this be? Surveys from around the globe consistently reveal that, after life itself, what people desire most is peace. So why do we still experience conflict? This 6-hour online course encourages us to examine the beliefs and cultural thinking that have perpetuated war for so long. It also invites us to explore community peace projects and peace initiatives, particularly those organized by Rotary clubs, and reflect on the costs of this mindset for ourselves and our planet.
Rotary Peace Center fellowships offer academic training, practical experience, and global networking opportunities that support community peace projects and peace initiatives. These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, as well as internship and field-study expenses. Currently, 1,700 fellows are actively engaged in over 140 countries, serving as leaders in governments, NGOs, educational and research institutions, peacekeeping and law enforcement agencies, and international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank, often in collaboration with Rotary clubs.
Over half a century has passed since the introduction of the universal message and prayer, May Peace Prevail On Earth, authored by Masahisa Goi of Japan after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Over 250,000 Peace Poles have been dedicated by friends and supporters involved in community peace projects and peace initiatives in every country around the world. May Peace Prevail On Earth is a registered trademark of May Peace Prevail On Earth International, supported by various Rotary clubs as part of their commitment to peace.
The Institute for Economics & Peace is creating a paradigm shift in the way the world thinks about peace. We achieve this through research, consulting, and training, unlocking the power of peace across all three areas. Our reports—such as the Global Peace Index, Global Terrorism Index, and Ecological Threat Report—are critical for stakeholders involved in community peace projects and peace initiatives. Central to our ethos is the understanding that peace extends beyond the absence of conflict. Our Eight Pillars of Peace framework identifies eight critical factors for establishing enduring peace, which also aligns with the efforts of Rotary clubs in promoting sustainable peace.
